Hendersonville has always been known for its moderate year-round weather. It enjoys the advantages of a typical mountain climate, yet it is protected by the higher ranges from some of the rigors of winter. The average summer temperature is 71 degrees with an average winter temperature of 41 degrees. While the temperature drops below freezing on more than half the nights in winter, it is rare, even in the coldest weather, that it fails to rise above freezing in the afternoon. The average length of freeze-free growing season at Hendersonville, and over the agricultural valley and gentle slopes, is about six months of the year. Summer weather is pleasant in Hendersonville. Ninety degree weather occurs only once a week on average in the summer, less than one-third as often as in the eastern part of the state

Rainfall is plentiful in the Greater Hendersonville area, and very well distributed throughout the year. The heaviest amounts fall during the summer months. The average annual rainfall is 51 inches. Some snow falls at Hendersonville almost every winter, but the amount averages little more than the snowfall in northern portions of the North Carolina piedmont.

Westerly winds prevail at Hendersonville in summer, and northwesterlies at other seasons. To some extent, winds in the surrounding area are influenced by local topography. Wind speeds average eight to ten miles per hour, running somewhat higher in the early afternoon and a little lower in the early morning hours. The sun shines more than half the daylight hours in Hendersonville, with (as you might expect) the most sunshine in late spring and summer, and the least in winter. The autumn season usually provides a great deal of beautiful outdoor weather.
